The music at Saint Paul is as diverse as the people here. It plays a key role in worship.
Enter the sanctuary and prepare to hear praise and worship songs as well as the voices of a traditional choir and the unique music of Calabash, a group of African members and friends of the church.
Praise and worship songs are often led by the pastor. The Calabash choir began in 1997 by African members and friends of the church interested in using the rich African culture and heritage in worship. The group is named after the calabash, a dry gourd made from the shell of a tropical fruit and covered with beads to use as an instrument. Interested in joining? Contact Didi Ndando at 281-575-6715.
The chancel choir led by music director Marshall Maxwell sings lively interpretations of traditional hymns and related music. All are welcome to join the choir. Rehearsals are at 7:30 p.m. every Wednesday. For more information, call the church office at 713-774-7446.
All musical groups play key parts in our Sunday worship.
In 2017, Saint Paul moved from its Bellaire Boulevard location to a temporary space at 7734 Mary Bates Blvd., Building A, next to a Buddhist temple. We are making plans to build a new church in the Highway 6 area of West Houston. We are currently worshiping temporarily at the sanctuary of St Martin’s Lutheran Church at 1123 Burney Rd, Sugar Land, TX 77498.
Today Saint Paul is a diverse congregation of African members and longtime Sharpstown and southwest Houston residents. The diversity shows in worship styles and music but remains rooted in historical truths about our faith.
